Abstract
このシンポジウムは、イギリス・ロマン主義と日本の浮世絵というこれまでに接点がなかった題材を切り結ぶことで、とくにロマン主義研究に対して斬新な視座と議論を提供することを企図しています。
およそ同時代にありながら、地球の反対側で台頭したロマン主義と浮世絵は、文化的にはまったく異質の地盤に根ざしながら、風景や自然に対する新しい感受性と想像力、旅行や観光が盛んになると同時に増殖していく名所・史跡の表象といった点で共通点があります。景観をめぐる言葉と図像との密でありながら屈折した相関性は、19世紀後半からモダニズムの時代にも波及していくことになりました。こうした論点をシンポジウムとして掘り下げることで、学際的な共同研究としての可能性と課題をさぐってみたいと思います。
